Ludlow: Eating & Drinking

Ludlow: Eating & Drinking

Where most Welsh border towns have chip shops and takeaways, Ludlow goes in for Michelin Star restaurants. The great thing is that Ludlow has some excellent Chinese and Indian food into the bargain. Whatever your taste in food any gastronomic tour of Ludlow is a delight. Here, in no particular order, are a few of Premier Medical’s favourite eateries and bars:

The Clive Bar & Restaurant
The Clive Bar and Restaurant

The Clive Restaurant is renowned for superb modern British cuisine and has been awarded two AA rosettes as well as entries in the Good Food Guide and the Michelin Guide. Emphasis is on the use of fresh produce ranging from local meats, smoked products and vegetables, to fresh Cornish fish. Almost everything on offer is home-made in the kitchen.

A separate Menu is served on Sunday lunch times to include a 'roast of the day'. The wine list of some 70 bins offers much from the New World as well as old favourites. Emphasis is on quality wine priced under £20 per bottle.

De Greys
De Grey's

Behind its timbered Elizabethan façade, De Grey’s has its own bakery producing award-winning breads and pastries. The interior of this "Ludlow institution" has been lovingly renovated, with historic beams exposed to provide a dining experience that is unforgettable.

On the surface it's that most traditional of British institutions – a tea shop. An army of waitresses dressed in smart black skirts and crisp white aprons provide a friendly and efficient service redolent of an era long forgotten in other parts of the country. Underneath it's also a restaurant serving 'proper grub'. The result has been a raft of awards, including recognition of its superb standards with the Tea Guild’s Award of Excellence in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
