Physiotherapy
Premier Rehabilitation has an established national network of chartered physiotherapists who use a variety of techniques to help muscles and joints work to their full potential.
In remedial situations, physiotherapy can help repair damage by speeding up the healing process and reducing pain and stiffness and our physiotherapy team plays an important role in rehabilitation for many conditions affecting muscles, joints or nerves.
Common problems that can be helped by physiotherapy include:
- Back and neck pain, including whiplash.
- Upper limb work-related problems, also know as repetitive strain injury (RSI).
- Asthma and other breathing difficulties.
- Sports injuries.
- Strokes and other neurological problems.
- Symptoms of stress and anxiety.
In particular for whiplash, physiotherapy aims to:
- Improve function.
- Facilitate the empowerment of the patient.
- Return the person to normal activity or work.
- Relieve Symptoms.
Physiotherapy Treatment
Prior to treatment taking place a physiotherapist will carry out an assessment of the condition, diagnose the problem and help the patient understand what is wrong. They will then develop an effective treatment plan that takes into account the individual’s lifestyle, leisure activities and general health. This includes advice on how to help self-manage problem, usually including exercises to perform between treatment sessions.
Chartered physiotherapists use a variety of treatments:
- Exercise programs designed to improve mobility and strengthen muscles.
- Manipulation and mobilisation to reduce pain and stiffness.
- Electrotherapy such as ultrasound to speed up the healing process.
- Acupuncture - used by some physiotherapists who are qualified to practise this technique.
- Massage.
It is important to remember that physiotherapy is not a passive treatment it requires input from the patient in terms of regular attendance and participation in recommended exercise programmes and postural advice.
